I have been looking for a battery application where I can monitor the charging cycle of my iPhone. The iPhone 4S consumes a lot and you do not want to incorrectly charge your device as it will reduce battery power. I was browsing over the iTunes Store yesterday when I came across this application. It has a 4-star rating in iTunes, nice icon, its free and has great user interface -- the first things that I look into an application.
Battery Doctor + is a nice application for monitoring how you charge your iOS device. At first launch, you'll see the status of your battery against the tasks that you usually do on your device like using wifi, 3G, video playback, call time, etc. Aside from the battery's status, there are four more additional tabs labeled as Charging, Records, System and More. The More tab has information on the Processes running on your device, Alarm Clock and Tips on how you can conserve battery power.
The features I like in the application are in the Charging tab and Records tab. In the Charging tab, you'll see two different windows when you are charging the device and when you unplug it. While charging, you'll see indicators on Fast charging, Continuation and Trickle charging. It also has definitions on these terms. When you unplug the device, you see your device's battery health score. I got a 5 star on my iPhone 4S and 2nd generation iPod Touch. I'm not sure though if this is because I used the application for the first time. I assume, it will record better when you use the application regularly while charging.
The next tab which I think is very helpful is the Records tab. As the name implies, it shows a record on how many times you performed a Normal Charge, Full Cycle Charge or Overcharged your iOS device. The types of charges are colour coded and it appears while you charge your device. It even has a calendar on when you performed the charges. This is very helpful because it helps me track how I charge my iPhone 4S. You can perform multiple normal charges but a full cycle charge is only recommended once a month. This prevents the degradation of the battery power. For more information on Apple's battery, check out this page from their site.
There are also additional information available on the application like the model of your device, iOS version, CPU consumption, processes and tips for saving batter power. You won't get this much features on any battery application that is free. Battery Doctor + is highly recommended for those iOS users who want to monitor their batteries and how to properly charge them.
Pros: Functions as advertised, great UI, free, universal application and only requires iOS 4.0
Cons: None that I can think of for now
Check out this app and download it now on the iTunes Store thru this link.
