How to fix IMAP Folders Disabled on Mailbox

Have you experienced this?

I got excited when I read that Mailbox will become available to download on the App Store. Mailbox is another application for handling your emails but it has cool functionalities which makes it stand among the other applications of its kind. First cool functionality is that its gesture based, you swipe left and right to archive, delete or place the email on a list.  Second cool functionality is that you can set a snooze for a specific email if you want to read it later or some other time. Even if it's only available for Gmail accounts, I did not think twice to try out Mailbox, besides, I am a Gmail user.

So I downloaded the application from the App Store but when I setup my Gmail account, I got the message above. The complete message said, "IMAP Folders Disabled, Mailbox needs access to your IMAP folders in order to sync your data. Please enable your AllMail, Sent, Trash and [Mailbox] folders in Gmail settings and try again." I got disappointed at first because there's no mention that I need to change something in Gmail to be able to use the application. I was able to set it up properly on iOS default Mail application, Google's Gmail and Sparrow so I find it weird when I got this message in Mailbox. I searched around first and then found a forum that helped me fix the problem. Here are the steps I took to fix it:

1. I accessed my Gmail account and went directly to Settings

2. Under Settings, go to Forwarding and POP/IMAP and ensure that IMAP is Enabled.

3. After ensuring that IMAP is Enabled, go to Labels. Under Labels, you will see the different folders here like Inbox, Sent Mail, Drafts, Trash and custom folders you have created as well. For all these folders, you need to ensure that "show" is selected and Show in IMAP is checked.

That's it, three simple steps that should fix the message above. Some Gmail users may not experience this because they are set that way by default. I organise my stuffs a lot so I have disabled some of the folders there but I have enabled them again so that I can use the application. I hope this helps new Mailbox users. You can download the application for free on the App Store thru this link.
