The reasons I'm deferring my upgrade to OS X Lion

The new operating software of the Mac was released yesterday with the codename Lion. The new release of the OS after Snow Leopard is version 10.7 of the big cat family released by Apple. It was introduced in last year's Back to the Mac Event. The Lion is set to bring some familiar iOS functionality to the Mac as well as other cool stuffs that they have just presented in the recently concluded Worldwide Developer's Conference last June.

With all the frenzy happening around the release of Lion, I maybe included in just a small number of Mac owners who won't be upgrading to the latest release of the OS anytime soon. Here are my top three reasons why I'm holding back my upgrade.

1. First would be size of the installer. At 3.8gb, our internet connectivity at home won't be able to download that amount of file. Our current speed is 100MB per hour, really not good. I have to download more than a day and hope that our connection is stable.

2. Second, although it was initially stated that Lion will only be available in the Mac App Store, Apple is planning on releasing a USB installer for it next month. Even though its double the price than that of the App Store download ($69 for the USB vs $29.99 from the App Store), I won't think twice getting it. I just really don't have the internet speed to download Lion from the App Store.

3. Lastly would be the compatibility of my existing applications with Lion. There's no assurance that all of my apps will work seamlessly with the new OS. A month or two would probably be a great time to download the new OS in my opinion. Besides, Lion can be installed anytime.

So here you go, my top three reasons in postponing my OS X Lion download. I really envy you guys who have fast internet connectivity at home. I need to stop drooling now, haha.

Not now Lion, I'll see you in a month or two :p (Image Source: www.apple.com)
