Concert photography with the S95

I just love listening to rock music -- energetic and full of intensity. This what makes it interesting to watch a rock concert live.

Shooting in such an event is challenging -- low light, crowded and your subject is always moving. I was able to shoot decent shots with my old DSC-W90 but there's just too much noise in the pictures I have taken. Here are some shots taken from my old cam from a Wolfgang and Razorback event in the Music Museum back in 2009.

My upgrade to the S95 absolutely improved my pictures. Shooting in Shutter priority lessened the blur, the improved sensor made the pictures brighter and the noise was handled properly with the S95's ISO. Here are some shots I've taken using the S95 on the Incubus Concert here in Manila and a recent Razorback gig at the Music Museum.

Now you may ask the settings I've used in the S95. Well, I haven't fully went manual. As mentioned, I went on to shoot using Shutter priority (Tv). I also used ISO 800 for the low light conditions. I just used Normal focus since nothing will change with my limited lens and I'm at some distance away from the stage. For my subjects, I obviously include the band, the crowd and the stage lights.

This issue from Digital Photographer Philippines is part of my inspiration in taking up photography. I will absolutely include concert photography in my specialty if I upgrade to a DSLR. Rock on \m/
