| Jailbreaking my iPhone 4S on my Mac using evasi0n's tool |
It's been more than a month since the release of the jailbreak for iOS 6.0. It took the jailbreakers 136 days before finding the flaws in iOS 6.0. It's been really challenging and I find it very fulfilling for the jailbreakers and the whole community who loves tweaking their devices.
It is just my second time to perform a jailbreak and the first time I did it was on my second generation iPod Touch. It was really just out of curiosity that I wanted to jailbreak. My iPod Touch cannot be upgraded to the latest operating software so I just thought of tweaking it. The best source so far for me on tutorials and news about jailbreaking is iDownloadblog.com. Its jailbreaking tutorials are very comprehensive and exhaustive explaining all the terms related to it like DFU (Device Firmware Upgrade) mode or tethered/untethered jailbreak. In my case, I used the RedSn0w application in jailbreaking my iPod Touch. Here's a RedSn0w Jailbreak Guide from iDownloadblog in case you want to jailbreak older devices.
Now fast forward to the latest Apple devices and iOS 6.0, Evasi0n's latest jailbreak is very easy and flawless. Compared to the RedSnow application I used and the way I jailbroke my iPod Touch, Evasi0n's tool is very easy. I don't need to enter DFU mode to start jailbreaking my device. In Evasi0n's jailbreak, you just go to their site, download the application depending on your PC's operating system, plug your iOS device and you're ready to jailbreak. Here's a step-by-step guide created by iDownloadblog on how you can use Evasi0n's tool in jailbreaking your iOS 6.0 devices. It's a tutorial for OS X but it should be the same for Windows or Linux.
It just took me a few minutes to jailbreak my iPhone 4S. I did it on my iPhone because I want to customise. I love the themes the first time I used them when I jailbroke my iPod Touch. Given the limitation of my second generation iPod Touch, I wanted to explore further. It's exactly a month since I jailbroke my iPhone 4S and I'm totally liking it. The jailbreak is actually flawless and I do not have any problems with it so far. I actually expected my battery life to degrade but it never happened. I have a couple of themes and tweaks already on my iPhone and I'll share them in my succeeding posts.
Jailbreaking is not for everyone especially for those who are scared to do it on their Apple devices. I only recommend it for those who are willing to read and learn stuffs about it. You do not want to have your Apple devices ruined because of this. If you are well informed and curious just like me then you are ready.
Here are some snapshots of my iPhone 4S a month ago during and after the jailbreak.
