Buying the Bose SoundLink Mini

It's already a week since I received the Bose SoundLink Mini as a gift from the girlfriend. I am very thankful of it because I've been looking for a good bluetooth speaker to pair with my Apple devices. I asked a lot of questions first that helped me in deciding what to buy.

Why did I choose a bluetooth speaker?
This question is easy to answer, I want a speaker that is portable. I want to bring the speaker with me together with my Apple devices. The biggest trend now is mobility with devices that you can always bring with you which include smartphones and cameras. Modern bluetooth speakers also sound great and good enough for a small room if you are a little concerned about the space. Another thing that I realised is I am getting annoyed with cords. Aside from mobility, wireless technology is also the biggest trend in tech.

What are the brands I chose for a bluetooth speaker?
The first choice I had were the speakers from Braven. I was actually eyeing the Braven 650. I have auditioned the Braven 650 and it actually sounds pretty decent. This model also looks like the body of the Mac Pro which has an aluminium build. The battery of this speaker also lasts for 20 hours and is capable of charging your mobile device via USB. The Braven 650 is also capable of functioning as a speaker phone. There are a lot to like about this speaker from Braven.

The second choice I had was the Bose SoundLink Mini. I came across this speaker from PhilMUG, an Apple forum here in the Philippines. It was highly recommended by the users in the forum. It has a higher rating compared to the Braven 650 but lacks the packed features the former can offer. The Bose SoundLink Mini only lasts for 7 hours, cannot charge your mobile device and does not come with a speaker phone functionality. It sounds much better though than the Braven 650 which in my opinion should be the main function of a speaker. You can pack a lot of features in a device but it should still focus on its objective, sound better music.

The last choice in the list is the JBL Flip. This has the highest rating among the three speakers I have mentioned here. It almost has all the features of the Braven 650 but its battery life is very dismal at 5 hours. I also don't like the design of this speaker that much compared to the aluminium casings of the Braven and Bose models. But this speaker is something to consider if you're on a tight budget. Aside from having the highest rating, JBL Flip is also the cheapest among the three.

What factors did I consider in choosing the SoundLink Mini?
Getting the Bose SoundLink Mini was a later choice because I was initially planning to purchase the Braven 650. The girlfriend and I came across a Bose store and saw a banner of the model. The girlfriend then suggested that I consider Bose and then went on researching for the model from there. I must say I considered two major factors in choosing this speaker -- Sound Quality and Design. The SoundLink Mini could be second best in terms of Sound among the speakers I mentioned above but I totally love its Design compared to the JBL Flip. Other factors are secondary for me including battery life and the price. The Braven 650 could charge my Apple devices but the sound of the SoundLink Mini is much fuller and, to use my term, has more "punch" to it! I can also afford buying Bose because its been a year already that I'm looking for a bluetooth speaker.

In summary, the Bose SoundLink Mini is the best choice for me. I've been using it for a week already and it made me again stay in my room listening to my great collection of Rock music from foreign artists like Led Zeppelin and Rage Against the Machine and to local favourites like the Eraserheads, Wolfgang and Razorback. Go and audition the SoundLink Mini for yourself and experience the great sound of Bose. You won't regret getting this little speaker!
