So I had my daily dose of reading personal email last Wednesday when I learned about this. It really made me excited to know that the expansion of Starcraft II is in the works already. This is expected to be released next year and having a preview was a great surprise. Blizzard's first release of Starcraft II -- Wings of Liberty was a great success last year not just because of the gameplay but also of its great story.
I was introduced to Starcraft I when a teammate bought a Starcraft Battlechest. Back in college, I had no interest with playing this kind of games because I thought it's difficult to control. There are a lot of structures and units to control. I don't have the time to master them. But when I got introduced to Starcraft again, I borrowed the chest and installed the game.
It was difficult at first. My brother and I played the game. We shared knowledge in learning this classic multiplayer game. We started with the campaigns. Unfortunately, I was not able to finish them, only my brother completed the campaigns. After learning the controls though, I started to play against AI. It was really challenging and difficult. I had a great time learning it.
Starcraft I and II can be played using any of the three races: Terran, Protoss and Zerg. My personal favorite is the Protoss race. But after playing Wings of Liberty, my second favorite is the Terran race. I use both interchangeably in the latest offering of Starcraft and having a great time playing with other players around the world. Starcraft II can only be played in multiplayer when you are online.
Here are some screenshots of Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty when I installed the game on my Mac:
Starcraft II Wings of Liberty is just the first of the three releases of this game. Wings of Liberty features missions of the Terran race. On the next release, Starcraft II Heart of the Swarm, the missions will feature the Zerg race. For a preview of the expansion, here's a link to the Blizzard site. Here's some snapshots too taken from the Blizzard site of what to expect from this new release coming soon.

Possible new Zerg units
Again, Heart of the Swarm is slated for next year's release. After this second expansion, Starcraft 2 fans will still expect part three of this series which will feature the Protoss race -- Legacy of the Void (maybe 2014?). I'm really looking forward for next year's release.
