| Beyond Magentic - Metallica's EP Taken from my iPhone, edited with Instagram |
"In December 2011, Metallica celebrated its 30-year mark with four nights of unhinged rock mania for fans at San Francisco's famed Fillmore. Each night the band performed a "new" song -- a previously unreleased cut from the sessions for its 2008 Death Magnetic album. Knowing how quickly word spread on these tracks, the band released this four-track EP of that material just as soon as those historic shows wrapped up. Not live cuts or demos, these are four fully formed songs from the band's studio time. This EP adds a few more flames to the Metallica Inferno."
And Inferno indeed. I listened to the sample tracks and I was really blown away. What a great way to start 2012. I did not think twice downloading the whole EP because it's really awesome. Again a classic Metallica with the rip roaring riffs of guitarist Kirk Hammett, the haunting voice of James Hetfield and the drum and bass beats of Lars Ulrich and Robert Trujillo respectively. Each song in the EP has an average of 7+ minutes which makes it a very good deal.
This was also my first time to download music from iTunes and I must say it's a good experience. Everything was so smooth I just used my iPhone 4S to download the whole EP. It took me a few minutes to download everything and I can listen to the full tracks right away. iCloud is also working seamlessly since it is also downloading the songs on my Mac. I just cancelled the download on my Mac and let my iPhone sync in iTunes.
For all those Metallica fans out there, you won't get wrong with this latest effort from the band. They can really still kick ass. 2008 has passed that fast and it feels Death Magnetic was so long ago already. Death Magnetic was also one of my favorite albums from them, it brought back the good old days of the band. I hope Metallica can still release one or two albums in the coming years with this type of calibre.

My favorite tracks: Hate Train, Just a Bullet Away
Here's the link to the iTunes Store. The whole EP costs $3.99 while the songs cost $1.29 each if you want to download them separately.
