Updating my iPhone 4S to iOS 6.0

iOS 6.0 was released last Thursday (Manila time) and I have updated my iPhone 4S today. I spent Thursday and Friday reading articles and feedback in PhilMUG first. Aside from the features offered in iOS 6.0, what made me decide to upgrade are the feedback in PhilMUG regarding a slight increase in battery performance of their own iPhone 4S. I'd like to check it out myself and reserve a separate opinion about it. Anyway, let me share my experience upgrading to the latest iOS from Apple.

Preparing for the upgrade

Here are some key points to consider before upgrading any iOS device
  • Make it a point to perform a backup first before installing the new software so that you can always restore back to your working system.
  • Ensure that you have fast internet connection. You will encounter an error during the download when your network connection is not stable.
  • In case you'll be downloading the software without plugging your device to an outlet, see to it that your device is fully charged. What I usually do is dim the brightness to its lowest level to preserve some battery life while downloading.
Here are some snapshots of my iPhone 4S while downloading iOS 6.0.

There will be some waiting time after the download since the software will be verified and installed on your device. After all the wait, you'll be prompted to some setup instructions similar to when you first used your iCloud capable iOS devices. Finally, you're all set to play with iOS 6.0.

After installing iOS 6.0
I had the opportunity to take snapshots of Apple's default applications and preferences before upgrading to iOS 6.0. I really intend to share the differences iOS 6.0 will make to these applications and settings. Here's a side by side comparison before and after upgrading to iOS 6.0. Facing this page, the snapshot on the left is on iOS 5.1.1 while the snapshot on the right is on iOS 6.0.
