Last Friday, Google displayed petri dishes on its search page to celebrate the birthday of Julius Richard Petri. Petri was a German microbiologist who is generally credited with inventing the Petri dish while working as assistant to pioneering bacteriologist Robert Koch (Source: Wikipedia).
